Finger Painting for Adults: Creating Art on the iPad

Posted by MacMan on July 5, 2010 in Apple, Uncategorized

UK artist Kyle Lambert demonstrates the viability of creating art on the iPad, painting an impressive portrait of singer Beyoncé using the Brushes app, 1 finger and 6 hours of work.  Very nice job.  Even better, Kyle’s posted a time lapse video documenting the whole process. Thanks to MacWorld for the tip.

Apple spotlights apps ready for iOS 4.0

Posted by MacMan on June 26, 2010 in Apple news

Filed under: iPhone , App Store We already spotlighted a few big apps that have made the jump to iOS 4 (and I’m sure we’ll have more coming up soon), but Apple has gone ahead and put a few of its favorites on a page in iTunes for you to browse through as well. There are some excellent games on the list (PopCap didn’t waste any time, and Ngmoco has a few, along with both Firemint titles). Art app Brushes and TUAW favorite Dropbox are there too, along with a bevy of other popular titles. This list definitely isn’t definitive ( iBooks is obviously ready for iOS 4, though it’s not on there), but if you want to see what the Retina Display is like or check out multitasking on an app like Pandora , you can do so

Adobe releases Adobe Ideas for iPad

Posted by on April 5, 2010 in Apple news

Filed under: iPad Just because Adobe can’t have Flash on the iPad doesn’t mean that they want to miss out on the Apple tablet bandwagon. Adobe has released a pretty cool app called Adobe Ideas . Adobe Ideas is a sketchbook for the iPad. The app features vector-based drawing tools, zoom control, sizable brushes, layers, and the ability to email PDF documents for editing in Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop. While Adobe Ideas isn’t as feature-rich as Brushes for iPad , it is a free app that starving artists will appreciate (though, if you’ve bought an iPad, I don’t think you technically count as a “starving” artist)

Jonathan Ive buys a couple of iPads

Posted by MacMan on April 5, 2010 in Apple news

Filed under: iPad Steve Jobs wasn’t the only one paying a visit to an Apple Store on iPad launch day. Jonathan Ive , Apple’s top industrial designer, was snapped buying two of his own products at an Apple Store on April 3rd. It’s not clear which store the above pictures were taken in, but you can clearly see the form of two iPad boxes in the bag. What’s the iPad’s number two creator doing buying a toy that he helped create

New Yorker Cover Boosts “Brushes” Sales

Posted by on May 29, 2009 in Apple intelligence

After Jorge Colombo’s iPhone art was featured on the cover of the New Yorker, it seems everyone wants to get their fingers in the pie. The Brushes app Colombo used to finger paint a late-night scene in Manhattan sold 2,700 copies when the cover debuted Monday, earning slightly over $13,000.  It usually sells around 60-70 copies a day. “A painting app seemed like a natural fit for the iPhone,” 32-year-old Brushes developer Steve Sprang told the NYT Bits blog .  “You’re touching the screen, so it’s a natural step to want to draw on it.” Sprang said the results dwarfed when Brushes was chosen as the app of the day on iTunes and that the app had sold 40,000 copies to date, earning him six figures. If you’re itchy to get busy with fancy fingerwork, Sprang has knocked the price down a buck, to $3.99, in honor of the New Yorker cover. Via Bits This article is copyright Cultomedia Corp .
